IELTS Speaking 7

English Speaking Tip

Sometimes your answers are too short. This can be because of lack of vocabulary, but it can also be because you are happy that you have understood the question and want to show your understanding by giving an answer quickly. Note that the Speaking test is not like a game show where a quick and correct answer matters. Instead, it is more like a talk show: the questions should be seen as a chance for you to talk for a while and to show your language ability. Try practising this by expanding your answers. This is a useful habit and good practice for the exam.

Part 1

Answer the questions:

  • How long have you been studying?
  • What subjects have you found the most difficult to study?
  • What do you enjoy/dislike about studying?
  • Have you gained/Do you hope to gain any qualifications?
  • Do you hope to do any further studies in the future?

Part 2

You will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes.
You have one minute to think about what you’re going to say.
You can make some notes to help you if you wish.

Describe your journey to school or work.

You should say:

  • what forms of transport are involved
  • the importance of time
  • whether it is enjoyable or not

and explain how you would make your journey more pleasant if you could.

Part 3

Answer the questions:

  • Do you think getting to work is easier or more difficult than it used to be?
  • How have methods of transport been improved?
  • Are there any problems that have been created by new transport systems?
  • Do you think these problems can be solved?
  • What about the cost of travelling, do you think it is too high?
  • What about your ideal journey, how and where would you like to travel?
